Annotations for Neutron Star Collision Love Is Forever

Lyric: Then our hearts combined like
 A neutron star collision
Annotation:
When two neutron stars (which are collapsed cores of massive supergiant stars) collide with each other, they can form a neutron star having the combined mass of the two. Here, this phenomenon is used in a simile to compare the hearts of the two lovers to neutron stars, colliding with each other and forming a combined larger self. Space imagery is also very frequently found in Muse' lyrics (great examples being “Supermassive Black Hole”, “Starlight”, “Space Dementia”).

Lyric: The world is broken
 And halos fail to glisten
Annotation:
Everything is wrong, people just do things for fame and for the glamour when they should do it just because of humanity

Lyric: And if we die, we die together
Annotation:
These two lines let us know that when he says “our love would be forever” he means it feels powerful and bigger than death. He states that, if one dies, both die, as something they feel like they should do because they are lovers and as the ultimate proof of love.

Lyric: Hail, the preachers, fake and proud
 Their doctrines will becloud
 Then they’ll dissipate
 Like snowflakes in an ocean
Annotation:
Matt claims that doctrines such as religious or political beliefs are nothing compared to love and will, unlike the latter, disappear. Muse have always been advocate of critical thinking in their lyrics. The opposition between love and indoctrination is indeed the central theme of their fifth album The Resistance, written in the same period as “Neutron Star Collision”.
